SpaceX plans to launch rockets from a launch facility several miles offshore.

SpaceX is hiring offshore operations engineers and technicians to work as part of a team to design and build a floating offshore rocket launch and landing facility for super-heavy class Starship space rockets, its next-generation transportation system.

The team will work closely with engineers across multiple disciplines in mechanical and electrical systems, applying technical expertise to design and integrate an operable final product. The base will be used to launch spacecraft to Mars, the moon and for hyper-sonic travel around the Earth. The job location is based in Brownsville, Texas, near SpaceX’s launch center in Boca Chica.

The job requires two years of previous professional experience designing, building or operating mechanical and/or fluid systems in the marine or offshore industry with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, aerospace or marine engineering.

Starship missions have three options for launch sites: Florida’s Coast, South Texas – Boca Chica and offshore platforms. South Texas appears to be the preferred location for the offshore spaceport as Starship prototypes are currently being built and tested near the village of Boca Chica.
